“Understanding your depravity is essential for holiness. For if you cannot see your sinfulness, then what motivates you to change?” Walter A. Henrichsen (“Walt H”)
———/:///// Thoughts from the Diary of a Desperate Man by Walter A Henrichsen (“Walt”) “And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” Romans 8:23 Adoption is the most secure relationship you can have with your parents. Your birth may be accidental or unwanted; possession by purchase means that you can be sold; inheritance may mean that you were not wanted. Adoption is a choice sealed with a legal transaction. Thus God talks about your relationship with Him in terms of adoption. Paul says that you “wait for the adoption.”136 It is a future event. You are still in the orphanage. Christ came to you, declared His love and commitment to you and promised that He would return one day to take you to live with Him. “For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with God means for you to spend your time in the orphanage preparing for your new home in heaven. He calls you to live with an eternal hope in a temporal environment. You demonstrate your confidence in Him in this matter by embracing His values as your own, and by longing for His return. 136 Romans 8:23 ———/:///// Deuteronomy 32-34 Mark 15:26-47 (New King James Version) Deuteronomy 32-34 Mark 15:26-47 |
