America is not standing on the edge of a future conflict… we are already inside one. It is a war without uniforms, without declarations, and without headlines. It is being fought through economics, data, land, cyber intrusion, propaganda, and dependency. And it is quietly succeeding. This form of conflict is known as Grey Zone warfare. It’s a strategy that operates above normal diplomacy but below the threshold of open war. It exploits the openness of free societies, avoiding military confrontation while steadily eroding economic strength, national solidity, and decision-making capacity. Because it doesn’t look like war, most citizens never mobilize against it.
War correspondent and former Ranger Chuck Holton warn that this is precisely the danger. He states that adversaries no longer need to invade territory to win, they only need to infiltrate our systems. The objective is not conquest, but control.
China has mastered this approach. It leverages trade dependence, intellectual-property, data access, and strategic investments probing our vulnerabilities to weaken the United States without firing a shot. Critical supply chains, pharmaceuticals, electronics, rare earths, are increasingly exposed to foreign leverage. Massive data collection through consumer platforms enables behavioral mapping and ultimately control. Strategic land acquisitions near sensitive infrastructure raise security concerns not because of speculation, but because of proximity and access.
Russia, by contrast, wages Grey Zone warfare through disruption and division. Cyber intrusions, disinformation campaigns, influence operations, and infrastructure probing are designed to fracture trust and paralyze response. The goal is not persuasion, it is confusion. A divided nation is easier to weaken economically and politically. “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand” (Matt. 12:25).
Others, like Iran and North Korea, are watching and learning. Grey Zone warfare is now the preferred model because it is cheap, deniable, and effective against nations slowly to react. Sound like us?
Nevada is not immune. As a state with critical military, aerospace, energy, and logistics assets, Nevada is strategically significant. Decisions about land use, infrastructure control, data security, and procurement are no longer merely local matters, they are national security issues. America’s security leadership has been clear. Kash Patel has warned, “The enemy adapts. China, Russia, and Iran are no longer focused only overseas … they are exploiting vulnerabilities here at home. They are targeting our economic systems, our cyber networks, and our institutions. If we fail to recognize this and respond decisively, we will lose without ever firing a shot.”
Former Director of National Intelligence, John Ratcliffe, has called China “the most significant threat to our national security in my lifetime,” citing a coordinated, whole-of-society effort to supplant American leadership. Admiral James Stavridis has warned that this competition unfolds in the shadows, where democracies often fail to mobilize until damage is irreversible. Even the National Intelligence Council acknowledges that adversaries are deliberately operating below the level of armed conflict to erode American power and cohesion. This is not alarmism…. It is a critical assessment.
Call to Action: Decisive, Lawful, Immediate!
The United States must respond with clarity and resolve… without panic, but without delay. What can you do? Demand action from elected officials. Contact your U.S. senators, house representatives, and your governor. Insist on stronger scrutiny of foreign investments near sensitive infrastructure, robust data-security standards, and serious incentives to restore domestic critical manufacturing. Practice informed consumer discipline. Reduce reliance on social platforms, technologies, and supply chains that expose data or deepen dependence on hostile regimes. Support transparent sourcing, domestic production, and secure systems. This is lawful, ethical market behavior… not retaliation. Rebuild resilience. Secure energy, protect water and land resources, harden infrastructure, and insist on transparency in public procurement and partnerships.
Grey Zone warfare succeeds when citizens are distracted, divided, and disengaged. America still has time, but time is no longer abundant. This is not fear, it is a final call to vigilance, and to courage. It is survival.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV) “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
