|“You can easily become possessive of that which God gives you, forgetting that He gave it to you to steward. …. You may not know what proper stewardship looks like, but you can know that when you step outside of the biblical parameters in an endeavor to keep what God has given you, you grieve His heart.” Walter A. Henrichsen (“Walt H”)
Thoughts from the Diary of a Desperate Man by Walter A Henrichsen (“Walt”)
“Can a man carry fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?” Proverbs 6:27
Few places are as treacherous as the office of the counselor. Many a mighty man of God has fallen because of indiscretions while counseling with the opposite sex. The line between the physical and spiritual can easily be blurred, especially when counseling someone experiencing deep hurt. Pastors have their ministries brought to an end because of one fatal lapse.
People travelling for business with a member of the opposite sex carry “fire in their bosom.” It matters not that they each have their own private room. When away from the family and other natural restraints, Satan’s temptations are particularly attractive. The risks are enormous.
You and your Lord know your weakness. Do not compromise in order to help someone. If they need help, and you know that you will be creating an environment in which Satan can tempt, then take steps necessary to ensure your own personal purity. Let someone of the same sex counsel. Never travel alone, or if you must travel, stay with people you know. Don’t watch television in your motel room, and be careful of the kinds of literature that you read. Stay vigilant in prayer and protracted time in the Word. Don’t play with fire!
Ezekiel 16-17 James 3 (New King James Version)
