“Repentance is the door to the gift of life; without it no one enters. The Bible knows nothing of salvation apart from repentance. …The failure to repent carries with it judgment. …repentance must produce fruit.” Walter A. Henrichsen (“Walt H”)——://///Thoughts from the Diary of a Desperate Man by Walter Henrichsen Fools for Christ Day Three Hundred Sixty-five “We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute.” 1 Corinthians 4:10 As Paul begins his epistle to the Corinthians he notes, “For consider your call, brethren; not many of you were wise accordinto worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.”469 “Look among yourselves; the Corinthian church is not comprised of people the world esteems.” The path to Jesus includes a sense of lostness, and these Corinthians qualified. Now Paul says that they are the opposite of what they were when converted: “wise, strong, honorable.” ”You Corinthians at one time were willing to be fools, weaklings and outcasts in order to demonstrate your dependence upon Christ. Now you have used your relationship with Him to provide the power to compete with the world on its terms.” This is a stinging rebuke. The Corinthians thought Paul foolish, for in preaching the gospel he intentionally walked in harm’s way. “Paul, why can’t you settle down like a normal man, keep your mouth shut, marry and have a family, and make tents for a living like the rest of the world?” Paul responded, “For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men.”470 The argument continues: Who are you going to emulate, Paul or the Corinthians? You cannot have it both ways. 469 1 Corinthians 1:26 ———/:///// Malachi 1-4 Revelation 22 (New King James Version) Malachi 1-4 Revelation 22 |
