“Your greatness will not be a measure of how God uses you, but of how you respond to how God uses you.” Walter A. Henrichsen (“Walt”)———/://///
Thoughts from the Diary of a Desperate Man by Walter A Henrichsen (“Walt”) “Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” John 20:29 God’s expectations toward you will vary depending on the depth of your relationship with Him. He will prove more accommodating to your unbelief in the earlier days of your walk with Him than in the latter. Many years ago I introduced a young man to Christ. Shortly thereafter while having his devotions and seeing a caterpillar crawl across the patio he said, “God, if you are real, cause the caterpillar to turn and crawl the opposite direction.” The caterpillar immediately turned and he later told me that as a result he would always know that God is real. As I thought about trying the same sort of thing the Holy Spirit assured me that He would not tolerate such nonsense. What he allows for a babe in Christ He will not tolerate in the lives of those who have had opportunity to mature. Thomas was not present when Jesus first revealed Himself to His disciples. Skeptical of what they saw, he said he would not believe “except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side.”83 When Thomas and Jesus met, He said, “reach hither…and be not faithless, but believe.”84 Jesus accommodated his unbelief, but cautioned that those that can accept by faith are blessed of God. If you find in your walk with Christ that He seems to gradually draw away from you, requiring more faith and less feeling, know that He is simply forcing you to grow into maturity. The closer you are to Him the less you need the miraculous. He may appear less intimate with you in your latter years of the Christian life than in the earlier days. This of course does not mean that He has left you, but rather is building into your life those qualities that make you blessed. No one enjoys the discomfort of walking by faith, but it is an essential ingredient in the life of His disciples. 83 John 20:25 ———/:///// Leviticus 25 Mark 1:23-45 (New King James Version) Leviticus 25 Mark 1:23-45 |
