“I think the greatest weakness in the church today is that almost no one believes that God invests His power in the Bible. Everyone is looking for power in a program, in a methodology, in a technique, in anything and everything but that in which God has placed it—His Word. He alone has the power to change lives for eternity, and that power is focused on the Scriptures.” R C Sproul
———/:///// Thoughts from the Diary of a Desperate Man by Walter A Henrichsen (“Walt”) “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this wor1d, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 From all outward appearance, you do wrestle against flesh and blood, contrary to what the Apostle Paul says. You wrestle against competitors in the marketplace, your friends and neighbors who treat you different from how they want to be treated, and against yourself. Paul himself said, “The good that I would I do not, but the evil that I would not, that I do.” 141 But when you look below the surface, you find that you do wrestle against “principalities and powers.” How many people that you know would tell you that they hate God and want to spend eternity in hell? Paul told the Corinthians that “the god of this world has blinded the minds of them that believe not.”142 Their seeming indifference to the gospel has its origin in a war against “the rulers of the darkness of this world,” even though God holds them accountable for their sin. Or consider your brothers and sisters in Christ. For the most part they want to please God and do His will. What happens when they become subjective and emotionally involved? Why do they insist on an idea that is contrary to reason and the counsel of others? Paul tells us that it is “spiritual wickedness in high places.” Issues become confused. They are partially correct and feel justified in their cause, unable to see the whole picture. Or consider your own life. Why do most Christians find it more difficult to pray for an hour than do hard labor? Why do they become discouraged, feeling that they are failures? Things go out of focus for you, just like they do for everyone else. No one is immune. Lord Jesus, “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”143 “For we wrestle against principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world.” 141 Romans 7:19 ———/:///// Joshua 4-6 Luke 1:1-20 (New King James Version) The Memorial Stones Luke 1:1-20 |
