Who is Meeting Your Needs? – 2
Day One Hundred Eighty-one
“For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
God insists on your looking to Him alone for the meeting of your needs. You covet when you seek to meet your own needs, or look to any other person than God for the meeting of your need. When you covet you commit idolatry.256
God may use others to meet your needs; He probably will. For example, my wife and children meet my needs in a wonderful way. But this is different from saying that I look to my family for the meeting of my needs. So also in all of my relationships in life.
There are certain tell-tail signs that indicate that you are looking to others for the meeting of your needs. “I have written or phoned numerous times. I am not going to continue until they reciprocate.” “I give them Christmas presents every year, and never receive one in return; I think I am going to stop giving.” When you perceive that your needs are inadequately met you feel hurt and are tempted to put the relationship in jeopardy.
You do not give to people because they gave to you. Rather you give because you are the obedient servant of Jesus and He asks you to give, and because God meets your needs. You must relate to others the same way that Jesus related to people. He did not come into the world go get, but to give; not to be served, but to serve. Emulate the way He lived, and look to your Father for the meeting of your needs.
256 Colossians 3:5
Job 17-19 Acts 10:1-23 (New King James Version)
Job Prays for Relief
“My spirit is broken,
My days are extinguished,
The grave is readyfor me.
Arenot mockers with me?
And does not my eye [a]dwell on their provocation?
“Now put down a pledge for me with Yourself.
Who ishe whowill shake hands with me?
For You have hidden their heart from understanding;
Therefore You will not exalt them.
He who speaks flattery to hisfriends,
Even the eyes of his children will fail.
“But He has made me a byword of the people,
And I have become one in whose face men spit.
My eye has also grown dim because of sorrow,
And all my members arelike shadows.
Upright menare astonished at this,
And the innocent stirs himself up against the hypocrite.
Yet the righteous will hold to his way,
And he who has clean hands will be stronger and stronger.
“But please, come back again, [b]all of you,
For I shall not find onewise manamong you.
My days are past,
My purposes are broken off,
Eventhe [c]thoughts of my heart.
They change the night into day;
‘The light isnear,’ they say,in the face of darkness.
If I wait forthe grave asmy house,
If I make my bed in the darkness,
If I say to corruption, ‘You aremy father,’
And to the worm, ‘You aremy mother and my sister,’
Where then ismy hope?
As for my hope, who can see it?
Willthey go down to the gates of [d]Sheol?
Shall we haverest together in the dust?”
Bildad: The Wicked Are Punished
18 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
“How long tillyou put an end to words?
Gain understanding, and afterward we will speak.
Why are we counted as beasts,
Andregarded as stupid in your sight?
You[e] who tear yourself in anger,
Shall the earth be forsaken for you?
Or shall the rock be removed from its place?
“The light of the wicked indeed goes out,
And the flame of his fire does not shine.
The light is dark in his tent,
And his lamp beside him is put out.
The steps of his strength are shortened,
And his own counsel casts him down.
For he is cast into a net by his own feet,
And he walks into a snare.
The net takes himby the heel,
Anda snare lays hold of him.
A noose ishidden for him on the ground,
And a trap for him in the road.
Terrors frighten him on every side,
And drive him to his feet.
His strength is starved,
And destruction isready at his side.
It devours patches of his skin;
The firstborn of death devours his [f]limbs.
He is uprooted from the shelter of his tent,
And they parade him before the king of terrors.
They dwell in his tent who arenone of his;
Brimstone is scattered on his dwelling.
His roots are dried out below,
And his branch withers above.
The memory of him perishes from the earth,
And he has no name [g]among the renowned.
[h]He is driven from light into darkness,
And chased out of the world.
He has neither son nor posterity among his people,
Nor any remaining in his dwellings.
Those [i]in the west are astonished at his day,
As those [j]in the east are frightened.
Surely such arethe dwellings of the wicked,
And this isthe place of him whodoes not know God.”
Job Trusts in His Redeemer
19 Then Job answered and said:
“How long will you torment my soul,
And break me in pieces with words?
These ten times you have [k]reproached me;
You are not ashamed thatyou [l]have wronged me.
And if indeed I have erred,
My error remains with me.
If indeed you exalt yourselvesagainst me,
And plead my disgrace against me,
Know then that God has wronged me,
And has surrounded me with His net.
“If I cry out concerning [m]wrong, I am not heard.
If I cry aloud, there isno justice.
He has [n]fenced up my way, so that I cannot pass;
And He has set darkness in my paths.
He has stripped me of my glory,
And taken the crown frommy head.
He breaks me down on every side,
And I am gone;
My hope He has uprooted like a tree.
He has also kindled His wrath against me,
And He counts me as one ofHis enemies.
His troops come together
And build up their road against me;
They encamp all around my tent.
“He has removed my brothers far from me,
And my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.
My relatives have failed,
And my close friends have forgotten me.
Those who dwell in my house, and my maidservants,
Count me as a stranger;
I am an alien in their sight.
I call my servant, but he gives no answer;
I beg him with my mouth.
My breath is offensive to my wife,
And I am [o]repulsive to the children of my own body.
Even young children despise me;
I arise, and they speak against me.
All my close friends abhor me,
And those whom I love have turned against me.
My bone clings to my skin and to my flesh,
And I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.
“Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends,
For the hand of God has struck me!
Why do you persecute me as God does,
And are not satisfied with my flesh?
“Oh, that my words were written!
Oh, that they were inscribed in a book!
That they were engraved on a rock
With an iron pen and lead, forever!
For I know thatmy Redeemer lives,
And He shall stand at last on the earth;
And after my skin is [p]destroyed, this I know,
That in my flesh I shall see God,
Whom I shall see for myself,
And my eyes shall behold, and not another.
Howmy [q]heart yearns within me!
If you should say, ‘How shall we persecute him?’—
Since the root of the matter is found in me,
Be afraid of the sword for yourselves;
For wrath bringsthe punishment of the sword,
That you may know there isa judgment.”

Cornelius Sends a Delegation
10 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian [a]Regiment, 2 a devout manand one who feared God with all his household, who gave [b]alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. 3 About [c]the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!”
4 And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?”
So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. 5 Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. 6 He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He[d] will tell you what you must do.” 7 And when the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him continually. 8 So when he had explained all thesethings to them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about [e]the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”
14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”
15 And a voice spoketo him again the second time, “What God has [f]cleansed you must not call common.” 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.
Summoned to Caesarea
17 Now while Peter [g]wondered within himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate. 18 And they called and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was lodging there.
19 While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you. 20 Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”
21 Then Peter went down to the men [h]who had been sent to him from Cornelius, and said, “Yes, I am he whom you seek. For what reason have you come?”
22 And they said, “Cornelius thecenturion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.” 23 Then he invited them in and lodged them.
On the next day Peter went away with them, and some brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

Please Pray for Brother Mark P, a missionary in the Philippines.
He said they have an unfolding issue with a senior leader, who has had a significant, long term sin revealed. This person was second under Mark over the entire ministry. Once the sin was revealed, it seems the sin runs deeper and farther than anyone could imagine. Mark says, for him personally, this is big one. “This is the last person I would ever have expected, a true friend, someone both myself and my wife genuinely love, our longest standing national in leadership.” Currently, “they have resigned from ministry and have start the blame and slander game to keep the focus off themselves.” A lot of pain going around right now. Mark asks for Prayer, specifically, in 2 areas:
1 – That Marks keeps his own heart and hands clean; and
2 – … Repentance needs to come from this individual.
I would like to add to Mark’s Prayer Request… we need to Pray
for Mark, Mark’s wife and this individual caught in the web sin. … And Note: We can only look to One Perfect Example in our lives… Jesus. (People will let us down, but He will never let us down.) And, from God’s Word, we read and need to mediate on:

Romans 3:10 – As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
James 4:11-12 – Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of [his] brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. …
Ephesians 4:32 – And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Colossians 3:12-14 – Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; …
James 1:19-20 – Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: …
Luke 6:31 – And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
Romans 2:1-4 – Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. …
Ephesians 4:26 – Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Romans 2:6-8 – Who will render to every man according to his deeds: …
Mark 11:25 – And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
