“A key to strengthening spiritual muscles and enduring hardship is finding strength in the Word of God.” Walter Martin
——:///// Thoughts from the Diary of a Desperate Man by Walter A Henrichsen (“Walt”) “The waters wear away the stones; the torrents wash away the soil of the earth; so thou destroyest the hope of man.” Job 14:19 The presence of hope in the life of the unregenerate guarantees the presence of sin. If hope is desired future gain, then sin is using unbiblical means in obtaining that gain. Without hope there would be no sin, but people cannot live without hope. For this reason God sets about to systematically destroy our worldly hope, replacing it with a purified hope, a “hope that does not disappoint us.”391 This was not understood by Lenin, Marx, Engels, and Hegel before them. It is the reason communism was doomed to failure; a classless, egalitarian society would destroy the hope of gain, and this hope is one of those ingredients that make us human. This means that sin, and with it the injustices of life, can never be totally eradicated until the return of Christ. Only in the new heaven and earth can we, in our redeemed state, maintain our hope without sin. As God brings you through the process of sanctification, He will strip you of all impure hope. More often than not, you will find this painful as you experience defeat and unfulfilled dreams. Something worse than this pain, however, is for God to allow you the fulfillment of your temporal hope only to arrive in eternity disappointed. 391 Romans 5:5 ———/:///// Jeremiah 32-33 Hebrews 1 (New King James Version) Jeremiah 32-33 Hebrews 1 |
