“God loves each of us as if there were only one of us”- Augustine
——:///// Thoughts from the Diary of a Desperate Man by Walter A Henrichsen (“Walt”) “Beware lest you say in your heart, “My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth.” Deuteronomy 8:17-18 Reason argues that you determine your standard of living on earth and God determines it in heaven. Revelation says the opposite; God determines your standard of living on earth and you determine it in heaven. People think that they should work hard to improve their lives; Jesus said, “Labor not for the things that perish, but for those things which endure unto eternal life.” 392 An individual works hard and earns money, concluding that his money is the product of his labor. If he someday faces bankruptcy, he works even harder, only to find that it doesn’t save his business. Then he learns that you can work hard and earn little. God makes the determination. The uneven distribution of gifts, abilities, opportunities, and circumstances, ensures the individual’s dependence upon God to determine his standard of living. Providence dictated your socio-economic environment, as well as your intellect and health. Jesus makes these determinations in hopes that you will “take no thought for tomorrow saying, ‘what shall we eat, and how shall we be clothed”‘393 He makes these decisions so that you will be motivated to “lay up treasure in heaven.”394 Salvation is by grace; rewards are by works. You, not God, determine your standard of living in heaven. In an act of grace He eliminates the possibility of your determining it on earth so that you can focus on the eternal. 392 John 6:27 ———/:///// Jeremiah 37-39 Hebrews 3 (New King James Version) Jeremiah 37-39 Hebrews 3 |
