“Faith makes all things possible… love makes all things easy.” Dwight L. Moody
———/:///// Thoughts from the Diary of a Desperate Man by Walter A Henrichsen (“Walt”) “Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” John 16:7 The Ascension of our Lord Jesus guaranteed His presence in your life. If He had not ascended, if He walked among us today as He did during His earthly ministry, you would have little chance of seeing Him, and even less chance of spending time with Him. To catch a glimpse of Him in Person, you would probably have to travel thousands of miles and contend with large crowds. If you sought a personal audience with Him, and were fortunate enough to be granted one, you would have to wait years before you had your turn. Sight is more certain than faith, but sight destroys the mystical and mysterious. It was hard for the disciples to see Jesus as different from the carpenter’s Son. Thomas’ history of walking with the physical Jesus became an impediment when it was time for him to believe, for he remembered Him as the Man with all the limitations of the flesh. ‘Whom having not seen you love.”346 It helps not to see. Because He ascended, all you need, to know Him intimately, is to invite Him into your life. “But if I go I will send the Counselor to you.” Paul declared, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”347 As a child of God you have Him living in you, allowing you opportunity to commune with Him moment by moment, day after day. If your fellowship with Him is not what it ought to be, it is because you have moved away from Him, not the opposite. He took up residence in you as the down payment of your eternal inheritance when you were born again. Happily, His Ascension made this possible. 346 I Peter 1:8 ———/:///// Ecclesiastes 4-6 2 Corinthians 12 (New King James Version) Ecclesiastes 4-6 2 Corinthians 12 |
