Freedom in Christ
Day Two Hundred Fifty-six
“For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, that I might win the more.” 1 Corinthians 9:19
Twice in this chapter Paul reminds the Corinthians that he is free. This freedom in Christ allowed Him to become “a slave to all, that I might win the more.” He would do anything short of sin and violating his conscience to identify with the lost in order to win them to Christ. He said, “To the Jew I became a Jew.” 339 In Christ Paul lost his identity with the Jewish race; he was now a citizen of heaven. Free from Judaism, free from the Law, free from any tie with the world, Paul could now concentrate on being an effective witness for Christ.
Both your slavery and your freedom reflect your values. You can be free from all restraints, but you will use people because you are a slave to your appetites and desires. Freedom can only come to those who serve. You cannot use people and be free. Paul was free from all men simply because he decided to be the slave of all. The two go together. Either you will be enslaved by your inability to meet your own expectations and fulfill your hope, or you will become a slave of Christ. “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”340 This is the freedom known by Paul and the only true freedom possible for anyone.
People seek to be free by being different, wearing strange hairstyles and clothes, only to find that they dress and look just like all those who think like them. When you “become all things to all men, that you might by all means save some,” you find a freedom found only in Christ.

Proverbs 16-18 2 Corinthians 6 (New King James Version)
Wisdom Is Better Than Gold
The preparations[a] of the heart belongto man,
But the answer of the tongue isfrom the Lord.
All the ways of a man arepure in his own eyes,
But the Lord weighs the spirits.
Commit[b] your works to the Lord,
And your thoughts will be established.
The Lord has made all for Himself,
Yes, even the wicked for the day of [c]doom.
Everyone proud in heart isan abomination to the Lord;
Though they join[d]forces, none will go unpunished.
In mercy and truth
Atonement is provided for iniquity;
And by the fear of the Lord onedeparts from evil.
When a man’s ways please the Lord,
He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Better isa little with righteousness,
Than vast revenues without justice.
A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.
Divination ison the lips of the king;
His mouth must not transgress in judgment.
Honest weights and scales arethe Lord’s;
All the weights in the bag areHis [e]work.
It isan abomination for kings to commit wickedness,
For a throne is established by righteousness.
Righteous lips arethe delight of kings,
And they love him who speaks what isright.
As messengers of death isthe king’s wrath,
But a wise man will appease it.
In the light of the king’s face islife,
And his favor islike a cloud of the latter rain.
How much better to get wisdom than gold!
And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
The highway of the upright isto depart from evil;
He who keeps his way preserves his soul.
Pride goesbefore destruction,
And a haughty spirit before [f]a fall.
Better to beof a humble spirit with the lowly,
Than to divide the [g]spoil with the proud.
He who heeds the word wisely will find good,
And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy ishe.
The wise in heart will be called prudent,
And sweetness of the lips increases learning.
Understanding isa wellspring of life to him who has it.
But the correction of fools isfolly.
The heart of the wise teaches his mouth,
And adds learning to his lips.
Pleasant words are likea honeycomb,
Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.
There is a way that seemsright to a man,
But its end isthe way of death.
The person who labors, labors for himself,
For his hungrymouth drives him on.
[h]An ungodly man digs up evil,
And it ison his lips like a burning fire.
A perverse man sows strife,
And a whisperer separates the best of friends.
A violent man entices his neighbor,
And leads him in a way that isnot good.
He winks his eye to devise perverse things;
He [i]purses his lips andbrings about evil.
The silver-haired head isa crown of glory,
Ifit is found in the way of righteousness.
He who isslow to anger isbetter than the mighty,
And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
The lot is cast into the lap,
But its every decision isfrom the Lord.
The Lord Tests Hearts
Better isa dry morsel with quietness,
Than a house full of [j]feasting withstrife.
A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame,
And will share an inheritance among the brothers.
The refining pot isfor silver and the furnace for gold,
But the Lord tests the hearts.
An evildoer gives heed to false lips;
A liar listens eagerly to a [k]spiteful tongue.
He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker;
He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.
Children’s children arethe crown of old men,
And the glory of children istheir father.
Excellent speech is not becoming to a fool,
Much less lying lips to a prince.
A present isa precious stone in the eyes of its possessor;
Wherever he turns, he prospers.
He who covers a transgression seeks love,
But he who repeats a matter separates friends.
Rebuke is more effective for a wise man
Than a hundred blows on a fool.
An evil manseeks only rebellion;
Therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs,
Rather than a fool in his folly.
Whoever rewards evil for good,
Evil will not depart from his house.
The beginning of strife is likereleasing water;
Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.
He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just,
Both of them alike arean abomination to the Lord.
Why is therein the hand of a fool the purchase price of wisdom,
Since he hasno heart for it?
A friend loves at all times,
And a brother is born for adversity.
A man devoid of [l]understanding [m]shakes hands in a pledge,
Andbecomes [n]surety for his friend.
He who loves transgression loves strife,
And he who exalts his gate seeks destruction.
He who has a [o]deceitful heart finds no good,
And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil.
He who begets a scoffer does soto his sorrow,
And the father of a fool has no joy.
A merry heart [p]does good, likemedicine,
But a broken spirit dries the bones.
A wicked manaccepts a bribe [q]behind the back
To pervert the ways of justice.
Wisdom isin the sight of him who has understanding,
But the eyes of a fool areon the ends of the earth.
A foolish son isa grief to his father,
And bitterness to her who bore him.
Also, to punish the righteous isnot good,
Norto strike princes for theiruprightness.
He who has knowledge spares his words,
Anda man of understanding is of a calm spirit.
Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace;
Whenhe shuts his lips, he is consideredperceptive.
The Name of the Lord Is a Strong Tower
A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire;
He rages against all [r]wise judgment.
A fool has no delight in understanding,
But in expressing his own heart.
When the wicked comes, contempt comes also;
And with dishonor comesreproach.
The words of a man’s mouth aredeep waters;
The wellspring of wisdom isa flowing brook.
It isnot good to show partiality to the wicked,
Orto overthrow the righteous in judgment.
A fool’s lips enter into contention,
And his mouth calls for blows.
A fool’s mouth ishis destruction,
And his lips arethe snare of his soul.
The words of a [s]talebearer arelike [t]tasty trifles,
And they go down into the [u]inmost body.
He who is slothful in his work
Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.
The name of the Lord isa strong tower;
The righteous run to it and are [v]safe.
The rich man’s wealth ishis strong city,
And like a high wall in his own esteem.
Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty,
And before honor ishumility.
He who answers a matter before he hears it,
It isfolly and shame to him.
The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness,
But who can bear a broken spirit?
The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge,
And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
A man’s gift makes room for him,
And brings him before great men.
The first oneto plead his cause seemsright,
Until his neighbor comes and examines him.
Casting lots causes contentions to cease,
And keeps the mighty apart.
A brother offended is harder to winthan a strong city,
And contentions arelike the bars of a castle.
A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth;
Fromthe produce of his lips he shall be filled.
Death and life arein the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.
He whofinds a wife finds a good thing,
And obtains favor from the Lord.
The poor manuses entreaties,
But the rich answers roughly.
A man who hasfriends [w]must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend whosticks closer than a brother.

Marks of the Ministry
6 We then, asworkers together with Himalso plead with younot to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For He says:
“In an acceptable time I have heard you,
And in the day of salvation I have helped you.”
Behold, now isthe accepted time; behold, now isthe day of salvation.
3 We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed. 4 But in all thingswe commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much [a]patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses, 5 in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings; 6 by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by [b]sincere love, 7 by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 8 by honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yettrue; 9 as unknown, and yetwell known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yetnot killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yetpossessing all things.
11 O Corinthians! [c]We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open. 12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your ownaffections. 13 Now in return for the same (I speak as to children), you also be open.
14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what [d]fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what [e]communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you[f] are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”
“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
“I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.”

Please Pray for Brother Robert. Robert says He has a Calling to establish a Church. His Prayer request is “… that God puts together a really amazing ministry team. I see it in the Scriptures. There were ministers, elders, deacons. Those seem to be three different categories of the people serving the body. It seems like that was the simple order they had set up. But it was a spiritual thing that would function through the power of the Holy Spirit. My prayer request would be that the Lord puts together the ministry team in what I feel Him asking me to be a part of.”
